A conversation with Chris Stamp
What inspired the theme and aesthetic for your second season of resort wear for Patina Maldives?
For our second season with Patina Maldives, we drew inspiration from the organic materials of the Patina and natural motifs the Indian Ocean has to offer. The experience on the island has a serenity and energy that is very special and hard to describe. We wanted to capture that feeling with our designs - creating pieces that resonate with the elevated yet laid-back atmosphere of Patina Maldives and are still versatile for both beach and city living. I currently reside in Miami and grew up in Southern California so this balance is part of my DNA - and to create something that can be enjoyed in all three key locations is something special about this collection.
How do you see this season's collection evolving from your first season? Are there specific elements or themes you've carried over?
While our debut collection laid the foundation for our partnership, this season we've delved deeper into the discovery of organic materials and textures that emulate the beauty of Patina Maldives. This discovery was meaningful as it continues to bring the core theme of ocean conservation to the forefront as our designs included more sophisticated executions of our ethically sourced materials. This hasn’t been something we did just for Patina, but is something we have incorporated into parts of our Stampd inline as well.
In your first collection there was a lot of inspiration drawn from the ocean and ocean sports. Does this carry over into season two?
Absolutely. Ocean & sport remain at the heart of our inspiration, and for this collection, we've incorporated these technical elements into versatile contemporary pieces that can be worn for both city and beach. We've expanded our repertoire of ocean-inspired design into a capsule that has an elevated wearability for men and women, central to both Stampd and Patina's ethos.
What does Patina Maldives mean to you?
The way in which the Patina brings art and hospitality together is the future of resort living. I’m excited to continue their story, alongside mine, to further create an on island experience like no other, for the modern traveler.
