About the
Artist

Maldivian artist Eagan Badeeu developed his drawing and painting from an early age with encouragement from his parents. Self-taught with a great passion for drawing, Eagan’s oil painting techniques were influenced and inspired by artists of impressionism and post-impressionism. Through exploration of artists and experimentation, his painting process evolved. He often went on drawing tours to the outer islands, most frequently to Rasmadhoo and to Kulhudufushi, where he would spend weeks at a time studying the landscape and seascape. Later, he travelled to the southern atolls of Fuamulah and to Huvadu atoll.

COLLECTIONS

The Lionfish and the Plastic Bag
This collection of watercolor paintings on paper is Eagan’s exploration of the various forces competing beneath the surface of the sea: the lionfish symbolizing life, survival and positivity, and the plastic bag, an icon of destruction and negativity

Theyokulain Dhivehi Raaje
This is a series of oil paintings depicting life in rural Maldives. The main inspiration of these pieces is the Maldivian environment, its vanishing traditions and lifestyle through a lens of nostalgia and a deep connection to nature
